Where’s he going? Mister Boombox. In his blue suede Clydes. Them kicks ain’t just sneaks. They’re Cadillacs for the feet! I wanna know. Who is he? Monsieur Le Panache. He combines the posture of a Bolshoi prima ballerina with the lion-like stare of a matador going in for the kill. I bet he’s no pirouetting musical cliché, our Señor Boombox El Mustachio. But the hero of his very own shape-shifting soundtrack – drifting between ethereal piano soliloquies that speak without saying a word; gargantuan analog synth-lines resonating so deeply, they meld with the roar of the tracks; enigmatic compositions fueled by Lusitanian mysteries; and expansive soundscapes seemingly ejected from the black holes of distant sombrero galaxies. Or the depths of a celluloid ocean. I imagine he’s actually waiting for a supersonic subway train to pull in to his inner radio station, so that he can hop on to continue a musical itinerary not too distant from the one that’s been mapped out just for you, in this installment of our cine-sonic odyssey.
